By Jenny Antoline

**This is a basket pattern- instructions to weave the basket shown, not a finished basket **

A large, sturdy basket- dimensions are 10"w x 15" long x 14" high(to top of handles). Seagrass is used for twining & weaving for an unusual twist. Uses a 9 x 13" base ( we carry 9 1/2" x 131/2"- will work) & two 10 x 14 D handles. The base lays across the handles which act as spokes & are twined into place. This is a new concept for me- using D handles & wooden bases for strength without having to cut the D handles & insert into a notch in the base. I like this idea very much for wood bottom baskets.

Weaving materials: 1/2" Flat, #000 seagrass (we carry #00, or you may use #2 round reed), 5/8" half round for rims, 1/4" Flat for lashing, 9 x 13" base ( use our 9 1/2" x 13 1/2"- you will just have less to twine around the base.), two 10 x 14 D handles,4 leather pads measuring 3/4" x 1" x 1/4" to glue on the bottom of the handles- I woud try getting these from a shoe maker or leather repair shop.

Half Round Reed~one lb.coilHalf round reed is as it sounds, exactly one half of a thick piece of round reed. Thicker than flat oval and is great for sturdy rims on utility or historic baskets.May also be used to make your own handles. Be sure to scarf down the overlaps well on half round when using for rims.
