This is a basket pattern; instruction to weave the basket shown; not a finished basket.
In March 2001, Ryan came into Linda's shop wanting to make a reproduction of his Grandma's basket which he had used for years....this is the result of his labor.
This is another large basket from Linda Boyle Gibson. It is 12" in diameter and 12" tall. Shaping is important as you must fit a 12" handle on the rim. It has a twined bottom and the sides are woven in a continuous weave using 2 pieces of 1/4" flat oval together--makes an interesting weave !
Materials needed:
5/8" Flat, 7/8" Flat, #3 Round reed, 1/4" Flat Oval, 1/2" Half Round reed, one 12" Round top Mountain Swing handle, or any 12" handle.
Supplies available below:
|
 | Half Round Reed~one lb.coil Half round reed is as it sounds, exactly one half of a thick piece of round reed. Thicker than flat oval and is great for sturdy rims on utility or historic baskets.May also be used to make your own handles. Be sure to scarf down the overlaps well on half round when using for rims.
